A lot of people ask me, what is this mug about? I guess there's not too much to it, on face value. But if the person really seems interested, I'll tell them the real deal. As I've mentioned before, a lot of my work is about these ideal worlds/spaces where women/femme bodies feel totally comfortable. There is no male gaze, male judgement, etc. I don't skateboard, but I know that this is a culture that has predominantly been male-dominated, and women might feel small/less important. So in this world on the surface of the mug, these women are hanging out, and also eating salad. The salad thing comes into play because eating salad is kind of this performance of femininity but it's also something I really enjoy, nonetheless. So yeah, there you go, that's what it's all about. This mug holds about 12 oz of coffee, tea, wine, or tequila.
Each piece is wonkily handbuilt and hand-drawn. Each line and color is done by me! If you are looking for a pristine piece of handmade ceramics then this is not it! It is built securely but with character. It is food and microwave safe, but I would recommend lovingly hand-washing it. Each piece is one of a kind, made out of earthenware clay and sgraffito-ed with goofy imagery.
