I've long been fascinated with Judith - a common subject in Renaissance paintings. Nominated to kill the evil Holofernes, Judith and her maidservant are portrayed in the midst of the violent act. While some painters depict Judith as squeamish, confused, or blasé, my favorite version is painted by Artemisia Gentileschi, a woman who knew how to paint women. Here, I've honored this painting with my own ink and brush illustration. A black ink screenprint on a Gildan Cotton Crew heather gray sweatshirt.
