I’m raising money for Short Run Seattle, which is an arts nonprofit that puts on a comics fest every year and has an incredible (fully-funded) residency called Trailer Blaze - which I was lucky enough to participate in last month.
I know that there are a lot of organizations to give to, but I think that supporting comics is an incredible way to support activism. I’ve learned so much about the world, different cultures, and social issues through indie comics. For instance, Ellen O’Grady was a fellow resident at Short Run who is making incredible comics about the genocide in Palestine. Comics are powerful! Not to mention, comics artists and cartoonists are often under-served in terms of grant funding. This is why it’s so important to keep the indie comic scene alive and supporting Short Run is a great way to do that.
