I've been really into wine lately. I think a good entry point for me was the natural wine scene. In the past, I've found wine shops intimidating - when a shopkeeper asked if I needed help, I'd usually say no, even though, yeah, I definitely did! Small natural wine shops in Chicago, like Red and White, as well as Diversey Wine, make the process way less intimidating and less pretentious (well - actually - that depends on who is working). But then Rainbow Wines, a delivery service here in Chicago, has made the process even more fun and special. Em and Cub have narrowed down the usual overwhelming choices to wines they personally vouch for, and write a lovely letter to you when they drop the wine off, with jumping off points for tasting and recommendations for the kind of mood you might want to drink this wine with. ANYWAY, I started doodling these women carrying wine, tasting wine, reading bottle labels, etc. Then it turned into a mug. This mug holds about 12 oz of coffee, tea, wine, or tequila.
Each piece is wonkily handbuilt and hand-drawn. Each line and color is done by me! If you are looking for a pristine piece of handmade ceramics then this is not it! It is built securely but with character. It is food and microwave safe, but I would recommend lovingly hand-washing it. Each piece is one of a kind, made out of earthenware clay and sgraffito-ed with goofy imagery.
