In Greek mythology, Zeus was enamored by Europa. One day, while she and her friends were gathering flowers, a beautiful white bull appeared. Europa draped a flower chain around his neck, sat on his back, and he carried her away to Crete. It was then that the bull revealed himself to be Zeus in disguise. On one side of this candle holder is a cartoon drawing based on Jean François de Troy's painting of the myth. On the reverse side is a flower chain like the one Europa draped on the bull. The candleholder is 5.5"x4"x1.75", with a hole at the top for a taper candle.
Each piece is wonkily handbuilt and hand-drawn. Each line and color is done by me! If you are looking for a pristine piece of handmade ceramics then this is not it! It is built securely but with character. It is food and microwave safe, but I would recommend lovingly hand-washing it. Each piece is one of a kind, made out of earthenware clay and sgraffito-ed with goofy imagery.
