I'm a huge fan of Edith Wharton's novels and love her exploration of female power in late 1800s/early 1900s America. In The Age of Innocence, Newland Archer, the protagonist, has a realization about the women he encounters everyday and how they use clothing as an "armor...their defence against the unknown, and their defiance of it." I love this quote and relate to it even in 2024, so here is a mug of women getting dressed, donning their armor, to encounter the unknown of or day-to-day lives. This mug holds about 12 oz of coffee, tea, wine, or tequila.
Each piece is wonkily handbuilt and hand-drawn. Each line and color is done by me! If you are looking for a pristine piece of handmade ceramics then this is not it! It is built securely but with character. It is food and microwave safe, but I would recommend lovingly hand-washing it. Each piece is one of a kind, made out of earthenware clay and sgraffito-ed with goofy imagery.
